President's Message
I would like to welcome all families, new and returning, to Davis Drive Elementary for the 2010-11 school year!
You are probably aware of the significant financial challenges being faced by schools all across the United States. Davis Drive Elementary is no different and that’s why the PTA Fundraising Committee has been working diligently this summer to bring a completely new fall fundraiser event to DDE. This new fundraiser event is the Dolphin Walk-a-Thon. The theme of the Walk-a-Thon is: “Carolina in my mind”. 100% of the proceeds raised will go to funding very important school-wide programs, including the Cultural Arts Program, Technology Enhancements, Curriculum Support and more. In order for the walkathon to be a success, the PTA needs your help! Mark your calendar: The DDE’s 1st Annual Dolphin Walk-a-Thon will be held on Friday, October 8th. Please keep an eye out for the walkathon packet and other walkathon information. Through these materials, you can learn how your family can support, participate and make a difference for DDE.
The walkathon will also kick-off the 2nd year of the DDE Kids ‘R Active program. The main purpose of the Kids ‘R Active program is to foster a healthy lifestyle for all the students at DDE. My hope is that through this program, DDE can achieve the A+Fit School Designation and even the A+Fit School Grant. The funds will help DDE focus on how to increase physical activity and healthy eating, both of which directly correlate to academic achievement. I ask parents, teachers and administrators to join and support the students in their effort to lead a healthier life. For more information on how you can be part of the solution visit NCACTIONFOR HEALTHYKIDS.ORG.
At DDE we recognize that fathers play a very important role in the education and everyday life of our children. That’s why I’m very happy to introduce our newest PTA committee: “Dolphin Dads”, headed by Tanveer Khan and Sunil Gedela. I encourage all dads to get involved in any way they can and to continue to make a difference in their child’s life.
Davis Drive Elementary is a blue ribbon school not only because it has qualified teachers, staff and administrators but also because it has an awesome PTA and an amazing parent volunteer force. In order to maintain the standards I ask all parents to get involved. Parents, here are a few simple steps you can take to support your child’s school and the DDE PTA. First, become a member of the PTA. Second, support the Dolphin Walk-a-Thon by volunteering your time and making donations. Third, sign up to receive the PTA bulletin, visit the PTA website at www.dde-pta.org, and stay informed.
I invite you to join me and the entire DDE PTA to be part of another amazing school year at Davis Drive Elementary.
Cordially,
Marge Ypema
DDE PTA President
